The Connellsville tennis team came up a little short in its bid to share the Section 5-AAA title with Hempfield as the Falcons lost to the host Spartans 3-2.
At first singles, Hempfield's Rishi Bajaj beat Josh Martin 6-2, 6-4 before A.J. McHugh nipped Gene Cunningham 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (7-5).
At third singles, Connellsville got on the board as Randy Richter topped Nick Woyzkiowicz 6-0, 6-3.
Hempfield won at first doubles as Mike Keating and Mike Friedlander beat Matt Ratai and Steve Haines 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
The second doubles match went to Connellsville as Joe Teets and Scott Campbell beat Pavan Mehrotia and Trennin Marsonic 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Connellsville will advance to the playoffs as the section's second-place team.
The playoffs will start next week.

Brownsville swept the singles matches to clinch the section crown with a tough win over host Mount Pleasant.
Ryan Minor got it started with a win over Vance Rumbaugh 6-2, 6-2 before Bill Chafin knocked off Eric Snyder 6-0, 6-2. At third singles, Josh Snyder topped Brian Hauser 6-0, 6-3.
The Vikings won the doubles matches as Pat White and Mike Whipkey beat Aaron Crable and Ian Glumac 6-3, 7-5.
In second doubles, Kurt VanHorn and Dan Vikartosky slipped by Colin Ryan and John Marcolini 6-2, 6-7 (7-4), 6-1.
Mount Pleasant (8-2m 12-4) finished as the second team in the section and will compete in the playoffs next week.

Laurel Highlands scored six runs in the first inning and held on for a victory over visiting Uniontown.
With the win, the Mustangs clinched section place in the section and will advance to the playoffs. Paul Briczinski struck out four and earned the win. Kenny Riddell doubled for Laurel Highlands.
Ryan Robowski fanned five and took the loss for Uniontown. Gary King and Neil Kelly each smacked a double.
On Saturday, Laurel Highlands (5-3, 7-6-1) hosts Brownsville while Uniontown (1-7, 2-10) visits Canon-McMillan on Monday.

Dan Fiore pitched a no-hitter as Yough (9-1, 16-2) clinched a playoff spot with a win at home.
Adam Portik homered, and Mike Reno belted a triple for the Cougars. Jason Nametska, Cody Smouse and Fiore doubled.
Mike Mardis suffered the loss for Southmoreland (1-11, 3-14). The Scotties play at Hempfield today.

Ashley Tikey and Nicole Sigwalt each served up eight points as East defeated California 15-5, 15-4. Brandee Leighty tallied five service points.
East's junior varsity squad also posted a 2-0 victory with game scores of 15-6, 15-0. Jennifer Budd racked up 10 service points for the Lady Falcons, and Katie Prinkey recorded eight.
East will host Bentworth on Tuesday.
