On Saturday, the community will get its first look at Connellsville Area High School's spring musical “The Addams Family.”

“I really hope the community comes out to check it out. It really is a great musical,” said Heidi Eutsey, production manager.

This will be the first time the new musical based on the unusual characters featured in multiple popular television shows and movies will be produced by a local high school.

The musical focuses on an older Wednesday Addams who has fallen in love with a smart “normal” young man from a respectable family and how everything changes for both families on the fateful night when they all meet for the first time.

“The audience will enjoy the catchy tunes and fun dance numbers but especially the laughs. This show is full of funny lines,” said Michelle Harbaugh, musical director.

The new musical director said she chose to continue with the free preview because members of the community, including parents and friends of the cast, look forward to it.

“They can't wait to see what the cast members have been working on. It is a tradition started years ago, which offers the cast members a chance to practice being in front of an audience and also it is a convenient time for the public to purchase tickets at the box office,” Harbaugh said.

The cast will perform parts of 10 songs during the preview. Eutsey said the cast will take part in the preview.

“The cast and crews are very talented and working hard to put together this show. I know that the community will enjoy it,” Harbaugh said.

Junior Haleigh Sigwalt, 16, said she is looking forward to being part of the musical for the first time.

“I'm excited! It's a different atmosphere being in a musical versus being in a dance recital or a competition,” Sigwalt said.

The preview begins 3 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

As a convenience, the ticket office at the high school will also be open in order for those watching the preview to purchase tickets for the shows on March 5, 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the March 5 performance will be $10 per person and tickets for all other shows will be $12 per person.

Lynne Ritenour, ticket box office manager, said tickets are sold Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information on tickets, call 724-628-1350, ext. 1620 on days and times the ticket office is open.
