CALIFORNIA - Ishmieal Kamara became the 29th player in Cal U history to reach the 1,000-point club Tuesday night at Hamer Hall as the Vulcans rolled to an easy 73-50 exhibition victory over Geneva.
Kamara entered the game needing just one point to reach the milestone and did it in the opening two minutes on a baseline jumper.
"He has played really well, especially in the last three games," California coach Bill Brown said. "He did a good job of playing under control tonight."
The Vulcans were without Tom Frederick for the second straight game.
"It's tough to mesh as a team when your best interior player is out with an injury," Brown said.
California started the game slowly, but broke out to a 15 point lead late in the first half. Kamara scored 16 of his 26 points in the first half, but the rest of the Vulcans struggled offen-sively.
"Right now, we're playing good defense, but the offense has some work to do," Brown said.
Geneva battled back to trail by only eight at halftime, but the second half belonged to the Vulcans.
Ryan Stefanski, California's most talented outside shooter, scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half as the Vulcans jumped out to a 25-point lead with 10 minutes remaining.
The victory raises Cal's record to 5-3. Allegheny College will visit Hamer Hall Thursday, while Ohio Valley College will play the Vulcans Saturday night.
"We're not where we need to be, but it's early December, so that's not surprising," Brown said. "I saw a lot of things that I liked tonight."
