Campus clippings: Cressler contributing at Vanderbilt

Nolan Cressler is finding his rhythm again after a year away from competitive college basketball.

The redshirt junior guard from Plum is contributing to the Vanderbilt backcourt after sitting out a season following his transfer from Cornell.

Cressler scored 14 points, one of seven Commodores players in double figures, in a 102-52 win over Detroit. He shot 6 of 12 from the field. For the season, Cressler is averaging 7.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 17.9 minutes per game.

Men's basketball

Duquesne

Senior guard Micah Mason (Highlands) scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, to help power Duquesne to a 91-77 win over Mississippi Valley State. He had five assists and four rebounds.

Westminster

Junior guard Johnny Arcuri (St. Joseph) is playing 14.3 minutes per game for the Titans (2-5), averaging 7.0 points and 1.3 assists.

Wrestling

Mercyhurst

Redshirt senior Jeremy Landowski (Burrell) was runner-up at the PSAC Championships at 149 pounds.

Penn State

Red-shirt freshman JasonNolf (Kittanning), ranked No. 3 in the country at 157 pounds, won a title at the Nittany Lion Open and improved to 9-0, with five pins. Sophomore Matt McCutcheon (Kiski Area), No. 13 at 184 pounds, is 6-1 with two pins.

Pitt-Johnstown

Redshirt senior 184-pounder Travis McKillop (Burrell) was PSAC wrestler of the week. That honor followed his winning Outstanding Wrestler and a title at the PSAC Championships in Erie. A three-time All-American, McKillop won his second conference title and also made the All-PSAC team.

McKillop's four wins on the road to his latest title: 16-0 technical fall, pin, 9-0, and pin.

He is 12-0 this season with eight pins. He has 94 career wins.

Women's swimming

Edinboro

Junior Holly Stein (St. Joseph) had three wins at the three-day Wooster Invitational. She won two individual events: the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.68, and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.76. That followed a NCAA Division II B qualifying mark in the preliminaries. Stein also helped the 200-yard freestyle relay to a win (1:47.88). That team also included sophomore Morgan Joseph (Kittanning).

Indoor track

Waynesburg

Junior Brandon VanTine (Valley) put up the top Division III distance in the shot put at the season-opening Youngstown State “Icebreaker” event with a throw of 42 feet, 9 inches, which placed him 10th.
