As if Halloween trick-or-treating already isn't fun enough, Masterfoods USA will be introducing some of its candy products with glow-in-the-dark wrappers for the annual spookfest. Snickers, M&M's and Milky Way in the small "fun" size are among the treats that will cast a ghostly glow. Lifestyle expert Deborah Durham says that the "glow-in-the-dark trend promises to be very big -- in terms of costumes, decorations -- and even candy." Trax to demonstrate canning methods Consumers can learn to can their favorite fruits and vegetables at the annual Canning Day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Trax Farms, 528 Trax Road, Finleyville. Different methods of processing -- water bath, pressure canning -- and tips on freezing will be explained. There will be three sessions: Pickling 101, Tomatoes 101, and Fruits & Vegetables 101. Program highlights locally grown produce "Celebrating Pennsylvania" is the theme of a free program about locally grown produce from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at McGinnis Sisters Special Food Stores, 4311 Northern Pike, Monroeville. The guest is David Eson of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, who will answer questions about produce, as well as representatives from Triple B Farms, Maple Valley Farms, Tait Farms, Fair Wind Farms, Sassy Dressin's, Marjorie's Candies & Cookies, and Country Kettle James. At 1 p.m., there will be a tasting of Pennsylvania cheeses, and drawings for fresh produce will be held every 30 minutes. Details: (412) 858-7000, ext. 7. Make-A-Wish plans progressive dinner "Dine Around" is a progressive dinner featuring dishes by five of Pittsburgh's top chefs to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia. The event, in its 18th year, will be Sept. 9. Registration will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Radisson Green Tree, and guests will be transported to each participating restaurant. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel, followed by soup at the Ramada Inn Plaza Suites Pittsburgh, salad at the Hilton Pittsburgh and Towers, entree at the Marriott Pittsburgh City Center, and dessert/coffee/cordials at the Radisson Green Tree. Programs combine food, great outdoors Venture Outdoors, a nonprofit organization with a goal of "making it easier for everyone to get outside, and then add a bit of education and ecological awareness," has announced fall food-related programs. "Gourmet Hike at the Frick," with a nature and history walk at Frick Park, Point Breeze, followed by a picnic and jazz concert, 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 3 (rain date Sept. 4), $30. "Beer Tasting Hikes," 2 to 3 miles followed by hand-picked beers and snacks, 3 to 7 p.m. $30. Dates are Sept. 11 at Boyce Park; Oct. 16, North Park; Nov. 20, Beechwood Farms; Dec. 18, Riverview Park. "Oktoberfest Hike," beginning at Riverview Park, ending at Penn Brewery for the beer festival, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 17, $5 (beer not included). "Wine and Beer Tasting Hikes," with trail exploring followed by bread, wine and cheese, limited to age 21 and over, 3 to 7 p.m., $30. Dates are Sept. 18 at Boyce Park; Oct. 23 or Dec. 18, Hartwood Acres/La Casa Narcisi Winery; Nov. 6, Frick Park. "Pancake Hike: Blue Hole Creek, Laurel Highlands," featuring a day in the woods followed by a pancake dinner by the New Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 2 or Nov. 3, $15. "Cooking With Edible Flowers" with Allegheny County park horticulture and design manager Denise Schreiber, noon to 1 p.m., Schenley Park Visitor Center, free. "Tea and Trails," a hike at Highland Park followed by tea and scones at Tazza D'Oro, 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 10, $15. "Pumpkin Pie Hike" through Raccoon Creek State Park, finishing with pumpkin pie, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 26, $15. "Cold Weather -- Hot Chili Hike," from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at Riverview Park, $15. "Matzo Ball Hike," celebrating Hanukkah, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at Schenley Park, $15.
