A Canon-McMillan High School janitor has been fired after authorities said he attempted to view girls in a school locker room.

Joshua Anderson, 25, of Washington, Pa., faces one count of attempted invasion of privacy, North Strabane police Detective John Wybranowski said.

Anderson, who worked as an evening janitor, was seen by coworkers spending time inside a storage closet adjacent to a locker room used by the girls swim team, Wybranowski said.

Police were notified Feb. 11, he said.

"(Anderson) was immediately suspended from the premises," Canon-McMillan Superintendent Helen K. McCracken said in an e-mail this morning.

The school provided police with video evidence of Anderson entering the closet at times when there was activity in the locker room, Wybranowski said.

Police found that a fire sprinkler cover above a bathroom stall had been removed, he said. From that vantage point only the stall area was visible, Wybranowski said.

Anderson was charged March 13. Police withdrew an invasion of privacy charge because they said they weren't able to determine whether Anderson viewed anyone, Wybranowski said.

Reports that Anderson admitted to spying on the girls are untrue, said his attorney, James Marchewka.

"He has maintained his innocence through out this," Marchewka said.

Anderson waived his right to a preliminary hearing on April 23, according to court records. He is free on his own recognizance. No court date has been scheduled.
