Can’t go it alone
In his A Page of Books column “Why America must continue role as world’s policeman” , Alan Wallace reviews Bret Stephens’ new book, “America in Retreat: The New Isolationism and the Coming Global Disorder.” The author’s concern is that U.S. politics, both of conservative and liberal stripe, will embrace the American public’s war-weariness and revert to a policy of noninvolvement in global affairs.
I believe it is most unlikely that this will happen, given the ever-growing internal and international threat posed to our country and every freedom-loving country in the world by organized Islamic terrorists. However, if we are to continue to act even as the de facto world leader, America is going to need genuine cooperation and substantive help from all the other nations in the world that wish to remain sovereign and free.
And, speaking of leadership, let us pray that a strong leader for our own country will emerge in 2016 to guide our nation — and the world — through these very difficult times.
