Card game turns bloody on North Side

A man was shot early this morning in the California Avenue-Kirkbride Street area of the North Side, police said.

The shooting took place just before 2 a.m. on Marvista Street, according to city police. The 40-year-old male victim is in stable condition at Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side, Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Tammy Ewin said.

Police said they have a suspect in the shooting.

Ewin said the man lived on California Avenue and was playing cards at his sister's house on Saint Ives Street, when he left to walk to his cousin's house. Police said he returned a short time later, rang the doorbell, and then entered and collapsed, saying he had been shot.

Ewin said police were able to follow a trail of blood from Saint Ives Street to a crime scene on Marvista Street.

The man suffered three gun shot wounds, sustaining injuries to his hand, side of his face, torso and shoulder, Ewin said.
