The Historical Society of Carnegie is looking for candidates to fill open positions.
Marcella McGrogan, 88, who helped start the historical society 22 years ago, resigned from her position as president this month.
McGrogan, however, said she wants to stay active with the organization. Her husband and co-founder, Dan McGrogan, died in 1999.
“I definitely want to volunteer there,” McGrogan said. “I will continue with projects that I have started.”
She did not give a reason for the resignation, effective on Sept. 4.
Separately, two other board members resigned because of time commitments. Society vice-president Bob DeBar, a Heidelberg councilman, and secretary Joan Harbin also resigned.
Like McGrogan, both DeBar and Harbin said they will volunteer at the historical society.
This leaves the historical society without a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The organization is looking for candidates for all of the these positions, said Dan Burns, former treasurer and now interim-president.
“We hope to have (candidates) by our next board meeting,” Burns said. That meeting will be held Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Borough Building caucus room. None of the positions are paid, Burns said.
The historical society is based on West Main Street in Carnegie, where the office houses items depicting the history of Carnegie and surrounding communities. These communities include Scott, Robinson, Heidelberg, Collier, Green Tree, Mt. Lebanon and even the City of Pittsburgh.
The Historical Society of Carnegie began when the Carnegie Borough incorporated the “Carnegie Centennial Celebration Committee” as the Historical Society of Carnegie.
Among the attractions are a scaled-down version of the town of Carnegie.
