Carnegie Mellon University places No. 22 in university rankings

Carnegie Mellon University in Oakland was ranked No. 22 in the "National Universities" category of U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges 2010 edition published Thursday.

Penn State was 15th in the "Top Public Schools" category and the University of Pittsburgh was No. 20.

The rankings are based on factors that include peer assessment, retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation-rate performance and alumni giving.
