CCAC interim president returns in same post in search of new president
Community College of Allegheny County’s Board of Trustees announced on Friday that Michael T. Murphy will serve as interim president of the college while the school searches for a replacement for Alex Johnson.
Johnson, president of CCAC since 2008, is leaving at the end of the month to become president of Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland.
Murphy of University Park, Fla., was interim president at CCAC during the previous presidential search from 2007-08. He was hired as a consultant from the Association of Community College Trustees, which is advising CCAC on its search.
“The board is delighted to see Dr. Murphy returning to help us keep the college moving forward during this period of transition,” said Amy Kuntz, who heads the trustees board.
CCAC’s contract with the association calls for the college to pay Murphy $20,833 a month plus $4,500 per month for expenses. The college will pay the association $3,124.95 a month as a 15 percent administrative fee.
Efforts to recruit Johnson’s successor will begin immediately, but officials won’t review applications or conduct interviews until faculty and staff return to the college’s campuses and centers for the fall semester.
Last month, CCAC trustees inked a four-month, $60,000 contract with the association to serve as a consultant on its search. The contract runs from July 1 through Oct. 31.
A college spokesman said CCAC employees can voice their preferences by taking a survey outlining their expectations for the new president.
