Charges dropped

Some charges were dropped Thursday against an Allegheny County man accused of sexually assaulting five young girls in Fayette County.

But several charges were held for court against Raymond Edward Addis, 47, of 1700 Patrick Place, Apt. 210, South Park, after a preliminary hearing before District Judge Michael Defino of Redstone.

Defino dismissed charges of aggravated indecent assault and aggravated assault. He held charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors against Addis.

According to state police at Uniontown, the alleged crimes occurred between October 2006 and July in Menallen, Brownsville, North Union and South Park, including at the homes of some of the girls or at Addis' apartment.

According to court papers, the families of some of the girls, ages 8 to 13, were friends with Addis, who would baby-sit them at their residences or at his apartment.

Police said Addis would visit Fayette County while having weekend visitation rights with a son. He would take the girls on trips to restaurants, movies and sleep-overs, according to court papers.

Several of the children eventually told their parents, who informed the police.

Addis still faces other charges filed against him for incidents that allegedly occurred in South Park.

He remains in Fayette County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.

East Huntingdon

Garbage hauler

faces fines

An East Huntingdon garbage hauler has been fined $234,500 by the state Department of Environmental Resources for failing to weigh waste before dumping it into a landfill to lessen the tipping fee.

In December, the DEP received a tip that Greenridge Reclamation and Greenridge Waste Services, subsidiaries of Allied Waste, were violating the municipal waste landfill permit by not weighing waste stored within the permitted area. Through interviews and audits of the company records, the DEP was able to determine the violations occurred between July 1, 2006 and Dec. 15.

Greenridge Reclamation was fined $110,000, while Greenridge Waste Services was assessed $124,500 for causing or assisting with the violations.

While the DEP could not determine the exact amount of unweighed waste, the agency believed it was not excessive. Along with the state fines, Greenridge agreed to pay $760 in delinquent fees to the DEP, the county and the township to settle the case.

Landfill tipping fees are collected by the county and the host municipality to pay for infrastructure and community improvements.
