Charges held for court against McKeesport man in Crawford Village shooting

Attempted homicide and other criminal charges have been held for court against a McKeesport man accused of a September shooting in Crawford Village.

Jeremy Carson, 19, appeared before McKeesport Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi on Monday in connection with a Sept. 19 incident that occurred near Building 47 in the housing complex.

At the hearing, shooting victim Callie Stinson Jr., 38, of McKeesport, testified Carson shot him in the arm at close range as he stood on a porch to one of the apartments.

Carson and his alleged accomplice in the incident, Justin Wiggins, 22, of McKeesport were arrested separately in connection with the case. Carson was taken into custody in Mercer County on Oct. 21 when police there arrested him on a theft charge.

Wiggins turned himself in for the Crawford Village incident on Sept. 30.

Stinson said he saw both men when they appeared from behind a building and attempted to call him over. When Stinson refused and stayed on the porch, he said the pair approached him.

He indicated that he and Wiggins got into a tussle a moment before Carson pulled a gun from his pocket. He said Carson attempted to strike him in the face with the gun, then fired the shot that hit him. Stinson said he's had surgery in connection with the injury.

Stinson said he had seen his attackers around but doesn't know them.

In addition to the attempted homicide charge, Carson is being held on two counts each of conspiracy and aggravated assault and single counts of reckless endangerment of another person and carrying a firearm without a license.

He remains in Allegheny County Jail on $100,000 bail and is awaiting a formal arraignment Jan. 21.

Wiggins, who is charged with aggravated assault and simple assault, waived his case to court at a hearing Oct. 19. He is being held in Allegheny County Jail on $40,000 bail. Wiggins' formal arraignment is Dec. 8.
