Over the past three years, there hasn't been a single person in this region who hasn't felt the crunch of this financial crisis. And things just seem to get harder. Fewer people have the ability to give and many more are now in need. The Salvation Army is facing some of its biggest challenges.

Every Christmas, we hold our breath and say a prayer that our corporate sponsors remain at our side. For nearly 30 years, the Tribune-Review has done just that.

Thanks to the Trib's faithful support of Operation Santa Claus and the generosity of its readers, nearly 7,000 needy families in multiple area counties have experienced the joy of a holiday meal and the knowledge that someone cares.

We are grateful for your gifts, no matter how large or how small. We are thankful to the Trib and Shop 'n Save, which continually go above and beyond to serve this community. And most importantly, to the thousands of people who gave money, volunteered time or offered prayers, please accept my most sincere gratitude. May God bless and protect you in this new year!
