Monday was payback time for Charleroi against Belle Vernon in the Fayette American Legion League.
Charleroi outslugged Belle Vernon, 12-10, at the John DiVirgilio Complex to avenge a season opening defeat,
Charleroi went ahead to stay 9-6 with a four-run sixth highlighted by Tyler Patch's two-run single.'
Drew Guarino started the rally with a single, followed by a Mick Betlar walk and Fred Garcia sacrific bunt. Brad Price's bunt drove in the tying run with Adam Madar adding an RBI single after Guarino's two-run single.
Chad Pappasergi and Guarino led Charleroi's 15-hit attack with three hits with Patch and Madar each adding two.
Belle Vernon, meanwhile, managed only six hits off four Charleroi pitchers, but capitalized on 16 walks and five errors.
Charleroi took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Betlar walked, Garcia tripled and Patch singled.
The lead was 5-0 in the third inning when Brendan Costantino, Guarino and Betlar delivered RBI singles after Pappsergi led off with a triple.
Belle Vernon scored its first run in the third inning on Sam Bashioum's single after Matt Kapinus walked and moved to second on a wild pitch.
The hosts trimmed the deficit to 5-3 in the fourth innig with two runs.
Brett King was hit by a pitch and Tyler Shutterly and Mike Pica drew walks to load the bases. King scored on Jake Cramer's ground ball with Shutterly crossing home on a wild pitch.
Belle Vernon went ahead for the first time 6-5 with three runs in the fifth inning.
After Nolan Russell walked and Justin Berklovich and King reached on errors, Shutterly drove in a run with a bunt and Pica delivered a two-run single.
In the sixth inning, Bashioum tripled and Shutterly singled to make it 9-7.
David Bassi's two-run double after Pappasergi singled and Costantino walked gave Charleroi an 11-7 cushion in the eighth.
Belle Vernon closed to within 11-9 with two runs in the eighth when Russell walked, King doubled and scored on an error.
Madar doubled and Pappasergi singled for an insurance run in the ninth.
Charleroi's next game is Friday at home with Point Marion while Belle Vernon resumes Wednesday at Colonial 3.
