Charleroi starts busy Legion weekend with rainout
CHARLEROI – After a rainout Friday at Waynesburg, Charleroi is in store for its busiest weekend of the season.
Charleroi (3-1) plays its first doubleheader of the early season today and has two more games in the next two days.
The first Fayette American Legion League game is at 11 a.m. against Plum and the nightcap follows four hours later against Lincoln Park. Both are exhibition contests.
Charleroi then plays its third game of the weekend Sunday at Farmington, and begins the week at home against California. They are section games.
Charleroi coach Tom Hartman is not too concerned about having to play four games in three days. He said he would be happy to see his team go 3-1 in the four-game stretch.
“I’m not worked about the two exhibition games,” he said. “I’m more worried about the other games.
“Our starters will start in game one. It’s important to get these games in.”
Pitcher Jason Cypher, the scheduled starter for Friday’s game, will not go against Plum. He instead will pitch either Sunday or Monday.
Derek DiPiazza is expected to take to the mound Saturday in the first game.
The team is coming off its only loss of the season, a 10-7 loss to Uniontown.
Five starters for Charleroi did not play in the game. All but one player, Trevor Consavage, who is going to Florida to look at a college, are expected to be in the lineup for the upcoming games.
“We’ll be all right,” Hartman said. “The people who played (against Uniontown) played excellent.”
