Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez lambasted former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Azner calling him "worse than Hitler."

Chavez was reacting to remarks Anzar made on Thursday while visiting Brazil. The ex-prime minister criticized the Venezuelan leader's close relations with Cuban President Fidel Castro, El Universal newspaper reported Friday.

Cuba and Venezuela recently brokered a number of deals while their leaders have expressed great admiration for one another. They have also recently proposed a western hemispheric trade bloc that excludes the United States.

Chavez said that Anzar during his days as prime minister forgot his allegiance to Cuba and join the "First World."

"That man vomited out all of his fascism and hatred," he added, saying Anzar told him to leave behind those Latin American nations that would never better their economic or political situations.
