Cheers ‘n Jeers
Here is a critical look at some of the events that helped shape life in the Mid-Mon Valley area during the past week:
Thumbs up: For everyone who takes the time to vote in Tuesday’s election. You have a chance to choose the people who will be running your local governments and making decisions that will affect your lives in the years to come. Don’t squander that opportunity.
Thumbs up: For the news that the U.S. economy grew at a phenomenal 7.2 percent during the third quarter of 2003. After a long period of depressing economic news, a full-scale recovery appears to be under way. A large part of that surge can be attributed to the latest round of tax cuts and this summer’s rebates to taxpayers with chidren. Tax cuts help economies; tax increases damage them. We hope Gov. Rendell is paying attention.
Thumbs up: For all the local high school teams that qualified for the playoffs, but especially for the Ringgold football team. Combine this season’s frustrations for Pitt, Penn State and the Steelers, and it still won’t match what Ringgold fans and players have gone through for the past two years. But the Rams redeemed themselves with a 59-34 win over Albert Gallatin last week to earn a playoff berth.
