Council approved salary increases for some employees and continued the pay rates from 2006 for others.

By a 6-0 vote, with Councilman Frank Meledandri absent, council approved the 2007 salary ordinance, which includes a 3.8 percent increase for Borough Secretary Andy Bock and the secretary in the borough office.

The increase raises Bock's annual salary to $43,388 and the office secretary, Jean Jancech, will receive $10.75 per hour.

Bock said the salary for the two senior full-time police officers will be $47,785 under the current police contract. That represents a 4 percent increase over 2006.

The borough's third full-time officer, who was hired after Jan. 1, 2005, and is under a different salary category, will receive $23,000 in 2007, an increase of $1,000 over last year.

Part-time police officers received a 2.5 percent boost, making their hourly rate $10.25 per hour.

The police administrator, a consulting position held by retired chief Ron Pawloski in the absence of a full-time chief, will continue to make $25,000 per year,

According to Bock, the hourly rates approved for the public works employees -- $20.47, $17.67 and $13.32 --- are those that they earned when their contract expired Dec. 31. Negotiations on a new contract continue.

The amounts paid to other borough officials and workers remain the same as in 2006: borough fire marshal Tim Borland, $1,200 per year; Solicitor Tony Colangelo, $3,600 retainer per year; zoning officer Jim Desmone, $3,600 per year and the borough engineer, Senate Engineering, $360 retainer per year.

Salaries for the mayor and council also remain unchanged. Mayor Dan Carroll and Council President Dom Pizoli Jr. will receive $1,500 for the year while the seven council members will receive $1,200 each.
