Chinese authorities in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang have detained seven people and seized tons of fake milk powder, state media said Monday. This is the second case publicized in China involving counterfeit powdered milk formula. In August, 13 infants died and another 189 were hospitalized after being fed fake milk, in a scandal that rocked the poor landlocked province Anhui. A pair of Anhui officials were jailed after the incident China Radio International reported Monday that two people were arrested and five detained for further questioning after producing approximately 60 tons of fake milk powder with low nutritional value. Local police seized 36 tons of bogus products that had not yet been sold by the ring, according to Xinhua.
