The death toll from torrential rainfall in China's Sichuan province rose to 19 Sunday, reported Xinhua, China's government-run news agency.

Twenty-one additional people have been reported missing, and 40 have been seriously injured.

The eastern and northern parts of Sichuan have been under incessant rainstorms since Thursday. The rains have triggered mountain torrents, mud-rock flows, and landslides in over 20 counties.

Government department at all levels have launched emergency plans, organizing rescue operations and relocating flooded residents.
