‘Chocolate Factory’ tops box office

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" grossed $55 million its debut weekend, topping the U.S. box office, according to boxofficemojo.com.

"Wedding Crashers," grossed $32 million in its opening weekend.

"Fantastic Four" made $23 million to run its overall gross to $100 million, while "War of the Worlds" added $15 million for a total of $192 million and "Batman Begins" added $5.6 million for a total of $183 million.

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith" made $5 million for a total box office of $168 million; "Dark Water" made $4 million for a total of $19 million; and "Herbie: Fully Loaded" made $3.4 million for a total of $56 million.

"Bewitched" brought in $2.4 million for a total of $57 million and "Madagascar" added $2 million for a total of $184 million.
