Christina Applegate will star in a CBS-TV movie based on James Patterson's novel "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas," the Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

The paper said Applegate -- who stars in the upcoming movie "Surviving Christmas" and the summer box-office hit "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" -- will co-star with her husband, actor Johnathon Schaech, in the upcoming TV movie.

Schaech starred earlier this year in the TV movie "Judas." In 1996, he starred in Tom Hanks' feature film directorial debut, "That Thing You Do."

Applegate will play a New York book editor who falls in love with an author, played by Schaech. Just as she plans to take their relationship to a deeper level, he disappears from her life -- leaving behind a diary written by a woman to her young son.

The editor realizes that her lover was married -- and his wife was the author of the diary, which contains a tragic secret.
