The Uniontown Downtown Business District Authority, in partnership with the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, the National Road Heritage Corridor and the United Way of Fayette, along with the businesses in Uniontown's central business district, will celebrate the holiday season on Thursday with the traditional downtown Christmas parade, followed by the lighting of the city tree.
This year the parade will be broadcast live from the big window at the Fayette Chamber of Commerce on Atlantic Broadband Channel 77.
"We are pleased to again be a part of the festivities in the City of Uniontown," said Muriel Nuttall, executive director of the Fayette Chamber. "The opportunity to air the parade live on Fayette County Television will mean that a whole new audience can enjoy the fun!"
The holiday tree, located in Storey Square, was provided this year by the City of Uniontown. Decorations and lights were donated by the Chestnut Ridge Rotary Club, with the tree decorated by the Laurel Highlands girls basketball team.
Again this year the UDBDA's Main Street Design Committee worked with the Green Gardeners volunteers to fill the lamppost baskets with greenery, donated by Cellurale Landscaping, along with lights and ornaments purchased through the UDBDA's special event fund. Neubauer's Flowers lent a hand creating 20 beautiful red bows to finish off the seasonal decor.
Ellen Ullmer, president of the Green Gardeners club said, "We had a great time this year working on the baskets. Many of us drove through town on Sunday evening and were thrilled with the result and happy to have been a part of the effort."
"The UDBDA, the Committee, and the partners have been working hard to bring this annual event back to the time when the streets of Uniontown were filled with people celebrating the season," said Donna Holdorf, executive director of the National Road Heritage Corridor and UDBDA board member. "We've made a good start on accomplishing that goal and I'm pleased to announce this year's parade and evening's events."
Holdorf added that there is still time if groups would like to march in the parade or if there are choral groups interested in performing in front of the Chamber of Commerce building or the First Federal Savings and Loan of Greene bank. Interested parties should call the Fayette Chamber of Commerce or the National Road Heritage Corridor.
