Cicero's Bar and Grill has quality food that will match up with the best of restaurants.
The Lunch Bunch found some good -- and quite large -- eats at the Leechburg restaurant.
After we adjusted our eyes from a sunshine-filled day to the dark lighting in the restaurant, which is separate from the bar area, we scanned the vast menu for our choices. The options seemed endless, so we had to push ourselves to decide.
We settled on an appetizer of Fish and Chips ($5.99) to share before our meal.
The popular pub dish featured pieces of cod that were breaded and hot homemade potato chips that were splashed with red wine vinegar, and dusted with sea salt and Parmesan cheese. We wish we could have had a cold beer with it, but being on the job, we passed. We made a note for our next off-duty visit.
The Greek Chicken Salad ($7.49) was outstanding. A large bowl filled with spring mix was topped with a grilled chicken breast that had been cut into bite-size chunks, roasted red peppers, marinated black olives and grape tomatoes, artichoke hearts and crumbles of feta cheese. We made two meals out of this spectacular salad.
The giant-size Meat Loaf Home-style Sandwich ($7.99) held delicious homemade slices of thick meatloaf between two thick slices of bread. The meatloaf was beefy and not full of fillers. Add a whopping double-dose of homemade mashed potatoes, cover everything in a rich brown gravy, and you've got yourself lunch, dinner and possibly leftovers. This is the best (and largest) meatloaf sandwich in the Valley, to this lunch bunch diner's knowledge.
We also ordered a Three Cheese Pizza ($12.99 for a 12-cut) with its soft crust, ample sauce and interesting combination of provolone, mozzarella and cheddar. The crew that attacked this pie had it gone in minutes.
The Turkey Supreme ($6.99) sandwich also was a take-out that was devoured immediately. Fresh oven-baked turkey, covered with melted cheese, along with lettuce, tomato, onions and mayo is piled high on a kaiser roll. A serving of chips accompanied the sandwich.
Cicero's just celebrated its fourth anniversary last month.
