I know that inevitably it is Giant Eagle that purchased the two plots of land upon which corporate Wal-Mart tried to build its supercenter near North Park but failed in its attempt. Nevertheless, in the end, it was the committed and tireless efforts of a grassroots group of McCandless residents who fought the building of this big-box store.

If Wal-Mart had succeeded in building this supercenter at the site of the former Rave theater, the ambiance of North Park would have been changed forever, not to mention the traffic tie-ups on McKnight and Ingomar roads that would have ensued.

Congratulations to the citizens of McCandless. Now we look forward to working with Giant Eagle on the building of a long-awaited community facility that all residents of McCandless can enjoy.
