Dora and SpongeBob are moving over to Amazon.com after leaving Netflix.
With the battle for kids' attention intensifying among on-demand video streaming services, Amazon said Tuesday it has agreed to license hundreds of TV shows from media conglomerate Viacom in a “multiyear, multinational” deal.
Amazon's Prime Instant Video, a library of free titles available to Amazon customers who pay a monthly fee for free shipping, will add thousands of episodes from Viacom's cable channels, including Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV and Comedy Central — including kids shows like “Dora the Explorer,” “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “Blue's Clues.”
Some shows from Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. also will be available in Kindle FreeTime Unlimited, a service for kids where they can download books, games, videos and apps.
Viacom's deal with Amazon follows its failed talks with Netflix to continue their licensing agreement.
