A Jeannette police officer said a Claridge man helped save a man's life on Christmas Eve.

Patrolman Justin Scalzo said he was called shortly before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Co-Gos on Fort Pitt Street, where Brian Slewinski, 32, of South Seventh Street, was lying on the ground.

Police said Tonya Renee Elliott went into the store and when she returned to her vehicle, Slewinski was slumped over and unresponsive.

Slewinski was not breathing and did not have a pulse, police said. After Scalzo started CPR on Slewinski, Robert Little, of 3046 Main St., Claridge, asked if he could help.

"This guy comes out of nowhere and starts giving (Slewinski) rescue breathing," said Scalzo, who continued with chest compressions. "We end up bringing him back. He's alive now."

Jeannette Emergency Medical Service took Slewinski to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital at Jeannette. Emergency personnel said the actions of Scalzo and Little saved Slewinski.

"The paramedics told me, 'If you guys wouldn't have done that, he probably wouldn't have made it,'" Scalzo said.

"It was nice to see somebody would do that," Scalzo said. "That makes me feel good there's people out there who would stop by to help. He did it on his own to help save the guy."
