Shawn Higgs scored on runs of 1 and 34 yards to lead Derry Area over Greensburg Salem 20-7 in a Keystone Conference game Friday night.
Deken George scored the only other touchdown for Derry (3-6, 3-3) on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Chris Marsh scored the lone touchdown for Greensburg-Salem (5-4, 4-2) on a 1-yard run in the second quarter. The Golden Lions have qualified for the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs.
Mt. Pleasant 34, Yough 6 —- Mike Predajna scored on runs of 2 and 24 yards to help Mt. Pleasant (1-8,1-5) end a 16-game losing streak dating to last season with a Keystone Conference victory over Yough (1-8, 0-6). Dave Sidun scored the lone touchdown for Yough on a 4-yard run.
Peters Township 35, Elizabeth Forward 24 — Jim Gallagher scored on runs of 5, 4 and 3 yards as Peters Township (4-5, 3-3) slipped past Elizabeth Forward (4-5, 2-4) in a Big Seven Conference game. Ryan Abels scored on runs of 55 and 45 yards for Elizabeth Forward. Thomas Jefferson 42, West Mifflin 0 — Jon Drager amassed a school-record 346 yards rushing to break his old record of 279, and he also scored four touchdowns as No. 1 Thomas Jefferson (9-0, 6-0) rolled over West Mifflin (5-4, 3-3) in a Greater Allegheny Conference game. Both schools are WPIAL playoff-bound.
Highlands 22, Hampton 7 — Bryaunt Williams rushed for 103 yards and Highlands (5-4, 2-3) defeated Hampton (4-5, 2-3) in a Greater Allegheny Conference game.
Kittanning 40, Valley 0 — Dave Tarr returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to ignite Kittanning (3-6, 2-3) to a Greater Allegheny Conference victory over Valley (1-8, 0-5). Brad Shepard rushed for 120 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 2, 16 and 12 yards for Kittanning (3-6, 2-3), which secured a playoff spot.
Keystone Oaks 41, Chartiers Valley 0 — Joe Joe Lamonde rushed for just 22 yards but scored three touchdowns to lead No. 8 Keystone Oaks to its sixth consecutive victory. Lamonde carried the ball five times including scores of 6 and 11 yards and returned an interception 54-yards for a touchdown. Pete Kaufman ran for 103 yards on 9 carries and scored on a 82-yard run for the Golden Eagles (7-2, 5-1), who secured second place in the conference and will host a playoff game next week. Chartiers Valley (2-7, 2-4) needed a win to remain alive for the post season but was hurt by six turnovers.
West Allegheny 34, Montour 0 — Dionte Henry ran for 203 yards in three quarters to lead No. 6 West Allegheny to its third-consecutive victory and second-consecutive shutout. Henry carried the ball 31 times and scored four touchdowns before being taken out after the second series in the third quarter. The Indians (7-2, 4-2) tallied 276 yards on the ground and held Montour (3-6, 1-5) to just 17 total yards and two first downs.
Hopewell 10, Moon 0 — Paul Posluszny returned from a two-week absence to run for 85 yards on 15 carries to lift No. 4 Hopewell. The Vikings (8-1, 5-1) scored all of their points in the first quarter. Adam Cosnek kicked a 27-yard field goal to start the game. Moon (4-5, 3-3) fumbled 11 times losing three including on returned 6-yards by Craig Bokar. Both teams had already qualified for the playoffs.
Southmoreland 25, McGuffey 0 — Shane Datz scored three touchdowns on runs of 13, 10 and 5 yards as Southmoreland (2-7) blanked McGuffey (0-9) in a nonconference game. John Mulhorn scored on a 17-yard interception to cap Southmoreland's scoring.
