In a pivotal presidential election year with the U.S. facing economic challenges at home and diplomatic ones abroad, one of the foremost experts in both arenas will appear at the Scarlet Cord at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 to offer his insights and answer questions -- President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This event is free and open to the public.
Todd Pfannestiel is FDR in a one-night event in which he combines his historical expertise with his theatrical presence to recreate an evening with one of the greatest presidents in American history. Listen as Roosevelt reflects on the 75th anniversary of his New Deal as well as speculates on the upcoming election and the challenges America faces in the near future.
Pfannestiel is an associate professor of history at Clarion University where he has taught since 1998. Among his specialties are recent American history and presidential history. He is the author of several articles on Roosevelt and the Great Depression, and is co-author of "Creamed Onions for Supper: The Great Depression in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania." Among his theatrical exploits, Pfannestiel has appeared as Franklin Roosevelt in the musical "Annie" produced at Clarion University in 2007.
This event is sponsored by the Jefferson County History Center through a grant from the Pennsylvania Historic Museum Commission and the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. A similar event is also being presented to the Brookville, Brockway, Punxsutawney, Dubois and Clarion Limestone public schools as a formal student assembly program.
Genealogy ClubThe Armstrong County Genealogy Club will meet 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Lankerd Thomas Library, Kittanning. This will be a research meeting and is open to the public. Questions may be directed to Esther at 724-297-3296.
