Rural Valley Lions
King Lion Raymond Hayes Sr. called the Rural Valley Lions Club meeting to order and welcomed all Lions in attendance and prospective member, Craig Dineley, who was the guest of John Wasilko.
Hayes distributed a sign up sheet for members to sign up for the times they wanted to work at the NuMine Day and the Rural Valley Festival. The NuMine Day at DiMaio’s Market parking lot was June 20. The Rural Valley Festival will be held July 16-18. The club will sell tickets for an Amish-made swing which will be given away at the festival.
The August meeting will be held Aug. 4 at the Shannock Valley Recreational Community Park with a picnic beginning at 6:30 p.m. All Lions are to take a casserole or dessert.
Past District Governor, District Governor-elect Evan Punchard installed the club members for the 2009-2010 Lion year which begins July 1.
A Father’s Day drawing was held for the men in attendance. Prizes were an assortment of men’s gifts.
Entertainment was provided by club member, Lion Chuck Richards, who sang and played the guitar. He ended the program with patriotic songs.
Hayes thanked McGaughey for printing the club newsletter and Lions George and Mary Eddy for all their help in setting up the lodge.
Hayes thanked everyone who helped during the last year to make it a success. He was then given a standing ovation for his leadership in the past year.
Kit-han-ne Questers
The Kit-han-ne Questers met at the home of Mary Ann Anderson in Chicora for the annual picnic on June 11 with 14 members and 10 guests were in attendance.
New officers for the 2009-10 term were installed. They are as follows: Susie Bowser, president; Mary Ann Anderson, vice president; Joie Pryde, secretary; Phyllis Palermo, treasurer; Jean Cooper historian; Carolyn Schrecengost, publicity and grants chairperson.
Discussion was held on a day trip for the group in July. The next meeting will be held Sept. 26 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the club.
The annual “Antiquing Along the Allegheny” will be held Sept. 12 at Kittanning Riverfront Park. For information or to participate call Rovena at 724-548-1015.
Apollo Elks
Three members of the Apollo Elks Lodge were honored at an awards ceremony banquet at the Blairsville Elks Lodge on June 7.
Jule Master received a special dedication award for being “a great member – any time Master was asked to do something she went over and above to provide the club with an excellent need.” Master also helped Frank Gwynn who received the Elk of the Year award for his assistance in raising money to assist the Elks Nurses Association with the state major charity. Charles Cook received a certificate of acknowledgement for his participation at the Elks State Convention in May at Seven Springs Convention Center. Cook participated in a ritual service for the toast contest and was a representative from the West Central District of Elks. Cook took fourth out of 10 districts.
