Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Madeira in Portugal will start a program this fall for a dual master’s degree in human-computer interaction, requiring course work on both campuses. Sponsored by the regional government in Madeira, the 16-month program will include a semester of core courses at CMU’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute in the fall, followed by a year of work at Madeira. The project involves a team of students working under an industrial or organizational sponsor to make a prototype product or provide a service. Students will receive two degrees under the program — one from CMU and one from Madeira.
