Coach charged with exposure

Correction: Gary Midock, of Aspinwall, never coached the North Stars of Gibsonia, said Tim McCoy, director of member services of PA West Soccer. The incorrect information was provided to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

A former Fox Chapel Area High School and La Roche College girls soccer coach is charged with exposing himself.

Gary E. Midock, 52, of River Oaks Drive, Aspinwall, was arrested Friday on charges of open lewdness, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was being held Monday in Allegheny County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.

Several children and an officer said they saw Midock nude in front of a window at his home, Aspinwall police Chief Charles Clouse said. Similar complaints have been filed "six or seven times during the past couple of weeks," Clouse said.

No one answered the phone at Midock's home yesterday.

It's the second time in less than six months that Midock, also a former youth soccer coach, has been charged with indecent exposure. He was arrested Oct. 11 by Ross police after they received a complaint about him standing nude on a grassy hillside adjacent to Northway Mall and Northway Apartments along McKnight Road.

At the time, Midock was an assistant coach at La Roche. He quit the job after the season ended in November.

College officials said they were unaware of the charges against Midock.

"Had that been (disclosed), we would have taken immediate action. That kind of behavior would not be something we would tolerate," said Ken Service, vice president for institutional relations at La Roche.

Service said the college does not conduct background checks on workers or job applicants.

"We have been looking at that. It's an issue (for) the higher education community in general," Service said.

Midock coached girls soccer at Fox Chapel in 1999 and 2000 before resigning for personal reasons, district spokeswoman Bonnie Berzonski said.

Midock coached Springdale from 1995 to 1998, leading the team to two WPIAL Class AA championships, three consecutive section titles and two appearances in the PIAA state semifinals. He also was an assistant and head coach with the Pittsburgh Strikers youth soccer club from 1991 to 1999.

Midock faces a preliminary hearing May 12 on the indecent exposure charges in Ross.
