Highly touted tailback prospect LeSean McCoy has indeed given a verbal commitment to Pitt, his prep school coach confirmed this morning.
Milford Academy coach Bill Chaplick told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that McCoy, a 6-foot, 205-pounder from Harrisburg, has chosen the Panthers over Penn State.
"I deal with all the Division I-A schools in the country and I have to say, without a doubt, Pitt recruited really hard," Chaplick said. "I guess it paid off in the end. He clicked with Coach (Dave) Wannstedt and that's who he'll be playing for."
McCoy took an official visit to Pitt this past weekend, but has since returned to the prep school in New Berlin, N.Y. McCoy is expected to announce his college choice later today. McCoy is regarded as one of the nation's top tailback prospects after rushing for 6,640 yards and 75 touchdowns at Harrisburg's Bishop McDevitt High School before suffering a compound fracture of his ankle early in his senior season. He originally committed to Miami, but reopened his recruitment when coach Larry Coker was fired.
