Last week: 7-7 Overall: 34-19, 64.2 percent H.S. Picks Jr. is feeling a bit under the weather this week. The doctor of prep football operators is hampered with a sore throat, cough, headache and the sniffles. Only Joe Paterno is feeling worse, and he moves faster than Junior. But chicken noodle soup and maybe some haluski from the nice ladies at the beautiful Wolvarena should help. Junior was ill last week, going 7-7 in his most lackluster effort of the season. He dropped his overall record to 34-19. But if JoePa can make a run, so can Junior. Here are his picks for Week 5: Thursday Shady Side Academy at Valley: Junior has a sneaky suspicion Toney Clemons will get into the end zone for the first time this season. Valley, 36-14. Friday Blackhawk at West Allegheny: Junior owes Blackhawk an apology. He said a month ago that Joe Hamilton wouldn’t reach his 400th career win this season. This will be 395, and climbing. Blackhawk, 14-6. Brashear vs. Perry at Cupples Stadium: Give Brashear credit. The Bulls have managed to score at least one touchdown in four of their past five games with Perry. Perry 28-7. Central Catholic at Penn-Trafford: Lamont Smith will be a game-time decision. So will the winner. When its time for the game, Central wins. Central Catholic, 23-13. Keystone Oaks at Thomas Jefferson: Of all the matchups in any WPIAL football game this season, this could be the best. Keystone Oaks’ D-I linemen Myles Caragein and Chris Jacobson against the top defensive line in Western Pennsylvania, led by Chris Drager and Lucas Nix. Thomas Jefferson, 24-7. McKeesport at Mt. Lebanon: Mt. Lebanon likes McKeesport so much, the Blue Devils gave up a season-high 39 points to the eventual state champs last season. Twice. Once in September and once in November. McKeesport, 26-19. North Allegheny at Seneca Valley: It’s Homecoming and North Allegheny is coming to town. That means there is a shortage of pennies and milk jugs in southern Butler County. North Allegheny, 14-7. Northgate at Ford City: The last time these two teams played, Northgate scored 44 points and still lost by three touchdowns. Ouch. Ford City, 34-30. Rochester at North Catholic: How good is Rochester• Chad Pennington is a reserve running back for the Rams. Rochester, 26-14. Springdale at Clairton: This game comes down to size vs. speed. Advantage speed. Clairton, 13-12. Trinity at West Mifflin: Trinity’s Troy Garove has rushed for more yards than Shaun Alexander, Larry Johnson and LaDainian Tomlinson combined. And Junior got him in the 11th round of his high school fantasy league draft. Trinity, 21-20. Yough at Greensburg C.C.: Yough coach Jim Wehner says to be the best, you have to beat the best. Junior says if you want to be second-best, you have to play Greensburg C.C. Greensburg C.C., 31-20. Saturday North Hills at Shaler: Forget about the Toledo-Pitt game at Heinz Field. The Shaler homecoming is the biggest show in town today. Half-mile-long parades with fire trucks and floats. Two 3-1 teams. The only letdown is wicked traffic on Mount Royal Boulevard and no more halftime parachutists. But Junior will be there. North Hills, 17-14.
