Most area basketball games were cancelled on Friday night due to the snow. That gave me the perfect opportunity to catch up on some college updates.
= On the wrestling mat, Waynesburg College recently placed sixth in the Kutztown University Golden Bear Wrestling Invitational. During the invitational, Connellsville graduate Brian Wolfe turned in a solid showing as he won three out of his five matches for a sixth-place at heavyweight. One of Wolfe's three wins came on a pin.
= In women's basketball, Connellsville graduate Beth Swink scored 25 points, hauled in seven rebounds and contributed seven assists to lead Saint Francis to an 84-77 victory over Saint Bonaventure. Swink's 25 points and seven assists were game highs. Swink also collected three steals.
= On the men's side, the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats picked up a pair of wins against Mt. Aloysius. Uniotown graduates David Winfrey and Scott Winfrey each played well.
David Winfrey posted 12 points to go along with two steals and two rebounds in a 93-78 victory. Meanwhile, Scott Winfrey added three points, three steals and three rebounds.
Then in the rematch, David Winfrey recorded a team-high five assists to go along with two points and four rebounds in a 110-65 thrashing of Mt. Aloysius. Scott Winfrey also notched three points to go along with two rebounds and two steals. The 110 points were the most points ever scored in a game by the Bobcats.
Prior to the wins over Mt. Aloysius, David Winfrey tallied six points and Scott Winfrey chipped in two in an 85-73 loss to Carnegie Mellon.
