Commissary gratitude |

On Oct. 21, the new military commissary opened in Moon. Many active-duty, reserve and retired military families waited many years for this day.

When my husband retired 11 years ago and we moved to the Pittsburgh area, the conversation drifted back and forth from closing the old commissary/post exchange completely to building a new facility. Over the course of time, it was decided that a new facility would be built. Incredible efforts by local officials and legislators were put forth to make this a reality.

I have stood in a very long checkout line in our new commissary. No one was complaining!

Speaking for myself, I waited many years to stand in this line — it reminds me of payday lines at Fort Bragg.

As I look around at this beautiful facility and see so many veterans who served our country with honor and distinction, all that comes to mind is that this new facility serves as a big tangible “thank you” to all these men and women.

“Thank you” to all who worked to make this possible! We are grateful!
