What happens when your personal computer needs repaired or is sick with a virus• Mark A. Ficco, owner of Computer Express, can whip up a prescription to remedy those maladies. In fact, the computer repair business he launched in Jeannette two years ago has been so successful that Ficco has opened a second Computer Express outlet at 3967 William Penn Highway in Murrysville.

Ficco says if growth continues at its current pace, he's prepared to open two new locations annually in Western Pennsylvania over the next five years. "We do repairs for every personal computer made. Customer service is the key. When a computer is fixed correctly the first time, word gets around," said Ficco, who employs seven workers, including a trio in Murrysville.

Ficco said the company offers computer repair in its retail store or on-site to small businesses and residential customers. Ficco said viruses are the biggest problems encountered. Yes, the computer "doctor" still makes house calls. Computer Express can be reached at www.computerexpresspa.com. If the computer is down, customers can call 724-527-5116.

  • Now that the turkey stuffing is finished with the passing of Thanksgiving, it's time for the kids to take their turn.

Children of all ages can create their own stuffed animal at U Stuff It, a new business located at 39 S. Beeson Boulevard in Uniontown that lets children choose, stuff, fluff, dress, groom and name any of more than 25 unique "stuffable" animals and dolls.

During the stuffing process, a child can add sound, make a wish, and tuck a star into the animal or doll. Clothing choices vary from overalls and T-shirts to themed outfits, holiday costumes and some local school sports uniforms, said owner Anna Marie Purcell. The business opened Oct. 27. Purcell said the site can accommodate up to 25 children for birthday parties, scout troop events, school field trips or other group activities. For more information, call 724-434-BEAR (2327).

  • Shoppers in Jeannette have a place to shop for groceries with the opening of a Save-A-Lot store this summer. "This gives the community a store," said operator Richard Skatell, who along with his brother, James, also operates a Shop n' Save along Route 136 in Hempfield Township. The Save-A-Lot occupies about half of a 3,000-square-foot building. Skatell said Dollar General plans to open in the other half soon.
