The two-year West Side repaving project is nearly complete. The paving part is finished, ahead of the June 30 deadline. Donegal Construction now has to complete sawing and sealing of the roadway. The sawing allows expansion breaks in the road, to prevent cracking during sudden temperature changes. "There will be minor delays as those are completed," said Valerie Peterson, PennDOT District 12 spokeswoman. She estimated that, weather permitting, sawing and sealing and permanent line painting will be completed within a week and a half. These final touches are subject to the June 30 deadline, too, which just included the paving, Peterson said. Connellsville Mayor Judy Reed has urged patience with the project, asking that drivers allow extra time during active work periods. "We're getting a good road, but it takes time," she said. In addition to milling and repaving Route 119 northbound from Prince Street to 200 feet beyond Marietta Street and southbound from Green Street to 50 feet beyond the intersection of Route 201 and Crawford Avenue, the $1.2 million project included placing new way-finding signs at intersections. Following massive gridlock in May, which required Connellsville police officers to direct traffic, Donegal Construction performed some of the work at night. The project began last year with repaving of Eighth Street and its intersection with Crawford Avenue. With a break for winter, the project resumed this spring.
