Tanner Wiltrout (103 pounds), Jerry Cramer (112), Jake Swink (125), Stetson Keedy (130), Jeremy Basinger (145), Zack Benzio (189), Nate Gaffney (215) and Travis Miller (285) recorded pins, as the Connellsville wrestling team opened the season with a 58-12 victory over host Belle Vernon in a Class AAA Section 2-A match.
Jordan McKnight (152) won on a major decision. Ryan Williams (119) and Jesse Swink (135) each posted a decision for the Falcons (1-0, 1-0).
Connellsville will wrestle Saturday at Kiski Area.
Girls basketball
Mt. Pleasant 62, Thomas Jefferson 57
Julia Park poured in 19 points, and Nicole Malara scored 15, as the Mt. Pleasant girls basketball team (4-0) defeated host Thomas Jefferson in nonsection action.
Shelby Way scored 14 points, and Carly Zelenak added 10.
Madison Waawrzniak paced the Jaguars with 17 points, and Lani Haeck had 10.
Freshmen boys basketball
Connellsville 34, Uniontown 32
Nick Pittsment scored 16 points, and Andrew Stone added nine, as Connellsville (1-1) beat Uniontown.
Devon Geary was a top rebounder, and Greg Easley played well on defense. Kyle Gruenig and Ryan Pearl played a good floor game.
Laurel Highlands 42, Connellsville 39
Nick Pittsment scored 11 points, and Devon Geary added 10, but Connellsville lost to Laurel Highlands.
Andrew Stone and Ryan Pearl were recognized for solid games.
