Thanksgiving is over and now all hearts turn toward Christmas.
Christmas is a time for giving, so won't you please consider those less fortunate than most when you make your Christmas list. Think about donating a toy to Toys for Tots, or some nonperishable food item to a community food bank; donate to Community Action, the Salvation Army or Community Ministries. There are so many ways that you can help and you really don't have to spend a lot of money, for as they say, every penny counts.
The Dawson Volunteer Fire Company will hold its regular monthly meeting Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend.
The Frazier Cross Country Team ended its fourth official season on a highly successful competitive note, with the boys and girls both finishing third in their section. The boys finished with a 9-3 record and the ladies finished with a record of 8-4. Highlights of the season included area resident Rebecca Leary winning the Fayette County championship, which was held for the second straight year on Frazier's home course at beautiful Linden Hall.
Rebecca also qualified for the second straight year for the PIAA state championship at Hershey, where she improved her time by almost a minute over last year's. Steven Cowen won the junior cross country championship at Linden Hall.
The Frazier Cross Country team will lose two seniors this year, Erica Sendek and Ashley Zias. We wish them luck in their future endeavors. The cross country banquet was held on Nov. 21 at the Sons of Italy in Perryopolis. Winter conditioning for track and cross country will be conducted twice a week at Frazier High School. Any boy or girl in grades seven through 12 who is interested may call coach Joe Turek at 724-628-0999 or coach Dave Bubnash at 724-735-0207. Congratulations to both boys and girls on a job well done.
Although the Dawson Volunteer Fire Company has finished its door-to-door fund drive, you may still take part if you wish by sending your donation to Jim Rearick Sr., P.O. Box 94, Dawson, PA 15428. The fire company would like to thank all who have donated so generously to the fund drive.
Just a reminder that the Dawson Volunteer Fire Company hosts a weekly bingo every Tuesday evening at 6:45 and late-night games every first and third Saturday of every month at 10:45 p.m.
Keep in mind that today is the first day of buck hunting season. Hunters, please be careful when you are out searching for that trophy buck, and use the proper safety rules. Also, use good ethics; if you do shoot a deer, don't just take the rack or hindquarters and let the rest of the deer lay and waste away. If you do not plan on eating the deer, have it processed and donate it to a food bank or soup kitchen. You may even have a neighbor who would appreciate extra meat on the table.
Don't forget, this is the weekend Flatwoods Productions presents "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus." The show time on Friday and Saturday is 8 p.m., while Sunday will feature a matinee at 2 p.m. Call the theater at 724-785-6896 for more information.
