Cooking Bush’s goose

Let's put the faltering economy and those 6 million out of work aside for the moment and take a look at why the Iraq war in itself is cooking Bush's goose.

Using the 9/11 fever, Bush skillfully used patriotism or the love for one's country to sell and launch his war in Iraq. Even the Democrats at the country's top level were taken in. They're patriotic, too.

The initial accomplishments and progress of the U.S. military are slowly slipping away. Iraq is suffering from widespread electricity and gasoline shortages, saboteurs blowing up oil pipelines and water mains, car bombings, destruction of the U.N. headquarters and a mosque, and GIs slain every day. And Bush's response is "Bring 'em on!" A typical Bush thing.

In spite of capturing or killing 42 of the top 55 regime officials, the attacks intensify and the 160,000 troops are lacking power to stop the killing, sabotage and violence. And there's inner fighting in the Bush administration: The State Department wants additional forces. In contrast, the Defense Department wants to rotate the troops.

Lying about "weapons of mass destruction" to the American people and adding the faltering economy to the above mix, Bush's goose will be fully cooked by Election Day.
