UNIONTOWN - A Connellsville man accused of burglarizing numerous residences in Connellsville, South Connellsville, and Connellsville, Bullskin and Dunbar townships as a way to support his addiction to pain medication pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Jonathan Vincent Costabile, 20, entered a guilty plea to numerous charges of burglary, theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief and receiving stolen property, which were filed in connection with the burglaries at seven residences. In addition, District Attorney Nancy D. Vernon would nol pros, or not further prosecute, charges filed in four burglaries including burglaries in February at the South Connellsville residence of Michael Connell and the March 8 burglary of Larry Richter's residence on First Street, South Connellsville. Costabile, whose address is listed on the affidavits as 904 Sycamore St., Connellsville, accepted a plea agreement of 2 to 6 years incarceration and additionally, must pay fines, prosecution costs and make restitution in the total amount of $6,209. He must make restitution of $280 to William and Donna Brock Pearson of Grandview Avenue, Connellsville, for a burglary on March 14 in which he allegedly removed jewelry, cash, a Sony Playstation and Playstation games and DVD movies. When apprehended by police, Costabile was allegedly in possession of the stolen items. He must pay $300 to Timothy and Sandra Kimmel of Narrows Road, Connellsville, for a March 5 break-in in which he allegedly removed $303 in cash after he admitted to entering the residence through a bedroom window. In addition, Costabile must seek rehabilitation for his drug addiction, said Vernon, specifically, an addiction to the painkiller OxyContin. OxyContin is a time-released medication often prescribed for cancer patients. In the four cases being nol prossed, Vernon said she received letters from the victims which stated that they know Costabile, know that he has a drug problem and did not wish to pursue prosecution. Defense counsel, Samuel Davis of Uniontown, said there was no question his client has an addiction and his conduct was 'certainly out of character.' 'Many of his victims are friends of the Costabile family ... this was a very unfortunate situation.' Several police agencies allege that the burglaries began in February and ended with Costabile's arrest on March 20. According to the affidavits, Costabile admitted he committed the burglaries to support his drug habit. Costabile will be sentenced by Judge Gerald R. Solomon at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 17. He has been incarcerated in the county prison since his arrest.
