Couple arrested on heroin charges

Allegheny County police arrested a Duquesne man and woman on heroin-trafficking charges Tuesday night after police found heroin tucked in a bandage covering the man's old bullet wound.

Charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of heroin, criminal conspiracy and endangering the welfare of children were Andre Berry, 26, and LaToya Green, 21, both of the 900 block of Crawford Avenue, Duquesne.

Police said they decided to charge the two with endangering children because a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old were found in the apartment with access to the heroin.

Police said they raided the apartment about 7 p.m. Tuesday and seized 146 stamped bags of heroin, a .25-caliber handgun and $950 cash.

Berry had 42 of the stamped bags hidden in the bandage he wrapped around his chest, said Allegheny County Police Lt. Harold Cline. Berry had received the bullet wound two years ago, police said.

Cline said Duquesne has been attracting heroin dealers recently. The raid was conducted with the assistance of the Duquesne Police Department.

"This guy sells street-level, and we believe he also supplies other street-level dealers," Cline said.

Berry was being held at the Allegheny County Jail on $50,000 cash bond. Green was being held on $10,000 cash bond. They both face a June 13 preliminary hearing.
