Cummerbund Society’s annual pool tourney benefits Magee-Womens
“I lost last year, so I had to re-configure,” mused team captain Frank“Rusty” Marmion. “I stacked it.”
For 41 gents attending the Cummerbund Society’s annual pool tourney on Jan. 9 at the Duquesne Club, engaging in some friendly fire was just part of the game. Also expected: that everyone would come dapper and dressed to the nines, as the group name implies.
Since 1988, the society has been hosting the event, raising tens of thousands of dollars for Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC — in particular, for patient care and neonatal research.
“There is a core of about 25 of us who have participated from the start,” said society prez Mac McIlrath.
Greg Slavik walked away with the crown, while Bob Beynon took honors as runner-up.
Other participants included Chuck Voelker, “royal barker” Bob Addleman Jr., greeter Bob Minsterman, Jim Collins, Gary O’Keefe, Mike Assini and Ben Huber.
