Zoe Youdell led all scorers with 18 points as the Connellsville girls basketball team defeated visiting Kiski, 60-16, on Thursday. It was the first Section 1-AAAA win of the season for the Falcons (3-4, 1-2). Allie Grimm had 14 points for Connellsville.
Frazier 48, Beth-Center 27 — Ashley Moger scored 18 points to lead the Commodores (4-3, 2-1) to a Section 4-AA victory over visiting Beth-Center. Alena Blaszczak checked in with 12 points, and Emily Marshall pulled down 13 rebounds for Frazier.
Kinlee Whited led the Bulldogs (2-3, 0-2) with 13 points.
Jefferson-Morgan 67, Geibel 15 — Nikki Venick scored 18 points, and Kayla Yorko followed with 16 points as Jefferson-Morgan cruised past the host Gators (1-4, 1-2) in Section 3-A. Morgan Simkovic scored 14 points and Erin Confortine tallied 10 points for the Rockets (6-1, 3-0).
Boys basketball
California 78, Geibel 48 —Kass Taylor tossed in 30 points as the Trojans (5-1, 3-0) defeated visiting Geibel in Section 3-A. JayCee Conaway scored 14 points and Ben Wilson added 10 points for California.
Caleb Miller scored 17 points for the Gators (2-3, 1-2). Bailey Miller scored 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds.
Swimming
Connellsville vs. Kiski Area — Tatum Detwiler, Carlee Shreve, Lexi Koslosky and Alyson Urie won the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.20), but the Connellsville girls swim team dropped a 91-89 decision to visiting Kiski Area in a Section 1-AAA meet. Urie won the 200 individual medley (2:15.03) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.46), both of which are WPIAL-qualifying times. Detwiler took first with a WPIAL-qualifying time of 55.31 in the 100 freestyle and also won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.67). Shreve finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:49.09) and Nicole Wood took the top spot in the 50 freestyle (27.75). Madison Kirk finished second in diving with 187.65 points, which is a WPIAL-qualifying standard.
On the boys side, Collin Mastowski, Noah Barczyk, Travis Patterson and Ian McCombie won the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.44) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:47.61), but the Falcons fell to the Cavaliers, 102-83. Mastowski won the 100 butterfly (56.96) and the 200 individual medley (2:08.69), both of which are WPIAL-qualifying times. Barczyk took top honors in the 200 freestyle (1:56.88) and the 500 freestyle (5:22.90). McCombie won the 50 freestyle (24.07) and Nick Jacobyansky was first in diving with 176.65 points.
