A British newspaper is suggesting U.S. actor Tom Cruise is trying to convert David and Victoria Beckham to the Church of Scientology. The Daily Mirror reported Thursday Cruise sent a Christmas card to the celebrity couple, with whom has a close friendship, as part of an effort to get them to convert to Scientology, a religious group founded by the late science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard. A Cruise publicist confirmed the actor sent the pair a holiday greeting, but the Beckhams told the newspaper they could not recall whether or not they had received such a card from Cruise. The card included Scientology’s “Code of Honor” and “A donation has been made on your behalf to the International Association of Scientologists.” © Copyright 2004 by United Press International
