Daily News roundup: McKeesport defeats Woodland Hills
Jordan Payne finished with 31 points and seven assists to lead McKeesport to a 75-66 victory over Woodland Hills in Section 2-AAAA play Tuesday.
Dee Diggs collected 11 points, seven assists and five steals for the Tigers (7-3, 3-1). Khalil Purdue had 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the win. Avram Abramovitz led Woodland Hills (2-9, 0-5) with 23 points.
South Allegheny 48, Ford City 38 — DaVonte Johnson scored a game-high 16 points to lead South Allegheny (3-8, 2-2) to a Section 2-AA win. Tywaun Igles added 15 points.
Jeannette 52, Serra Catholic 32 — Sophomore Mark Wormack netted 15 points to lead Jeannette (5-6, 3-0) to a Section 4-A victory. Fellow sophomore Mike Pompei added 12 points for the Jayhawks.
Girls basketball
McKeesport 61, WoodlandHills 36 — In Section 2-AAAA, sophomore Johnasia Cash scored 25 points to help McKeesport (6-3, 3-1) snap its three-game losing skid. T.T. Burke scored 14 points for the Tigers.
East Allegheny 60, Bentworth 27 — Amani Johnson led all scorers with 13 points as East Allegheny collected a nonsection win. Ashley Harner added 11 points for Wildcats. Cache Street and Myla Bortoluzzi had 10 points each.
Serra Catholic 62, Ellis School 36 — Katie Sieg finished with 25 points to power Serra Catholic (7-4, 4-0) to a Section 4-A win. Felicia Moon had 14 points for the Eagles.
Thomas Jefferson 45, Moon 36 — Haley Zoglmann had 19 points, and Marina Petruzzi added 10 to lead Thomas Jefferson to a nonsection win.
