Daily News roundup: Serra Catholic boys shut out McKeesport
Lucas Batz made four saves to secure the shutout as Serra Catholic scored a 5-0 win over McKeesport in a nonsection boys soccer contest Tuesday night.
Serra Catholic (10-3-3), which has won three straight games, will learn its opening-round opponent when the WPIAL playoff pairings are announced Wednesday.
Elizabeth Forward 4, Gateway 1— Nathan Forsythe scored twice and Zach Martik and Dave Saunders also scored to lead Elizabeth Forward (7-9-2) to a nonsection win.
Jeff Ragan had two assists, and goalie Ryan Lee made 12 saves in the win.
Thomas Jefferson 2, Baldwin 0 — Matt Prezioso and Owen Haythorn scored, and Colin Bucsok earned the shutout as No. 3 Thomas Jefferson (16-1-1) earned a nonsection win.
Norwin 2, North Allegheny 0 — Emily Harrigan and Micayla Livingston scored to carry No. 2 Norwin over North Allegheny (12-4-1) in a nonsection matchup.
Sam Wexell recorded the shutout for Norwin (18-0), which has allowed three goals while scoring 114 during the regular season.
Steel Valley 1, Springdale 0 — Jordan Butko scored the winning goal for Steel Valley (5-11-1, 4-10-1) in a Section 4-A victory over Springdale (11-6-0, 10-5-0).
Veronica Sikora recorded the shutout.
Thomas Jefferson 3, Seton-La Salle 2— After falling being 2-0, Thomas Jefferson rebounded to win the final three sets to capture a Section 6-AA victory that forced a three-way tie for first place between the Jaguars, Seton-La Salle and South Fayette, who all are 11-2.
The match was delayed in the fifth set when the power went out.
