Daily News roundup: Thomas Jefferson bounces East Allegheny in Section 4
CJ Mason led all scorers with 14 points to carry Thomas Jefferson (14-2, 6-1) to a 79-35 victory over East Allegheny in Section 4-AAA action Wednesday night.
Zach Michak (11) and Eric Fairman (10) also reached double figures for Thomas Jefferson.
Kiski Area 61, Norwin 57 — Kiski Area held off a furious comeback by Norwin (9-7, 3-5) in a Section 1-AAAA win. Norwin outscored Kiski Area, 31-19, in the fourth quarter, cutting the Cavaliers lead to one.
Michael Simmons had a game-high 23 points, and Joe Brungo had 18 for Kiski Area (11-4, 7-1).
Simmons and Brungo each hit a free-throw late to help seal the victory.
Curtis Perz scored 20 points, and Zach Bryan had 19 for Norwin.
Serra Catholic 86, Burgettstown 74 — Tyler Grebur scored 34 points, and Max Kaminksy and Joe Satira added 21 and 20, respectively, to lead Serra Catholic (6-9) to a nonsection win.
McKeesport 48, Monessen 16 — Nassiah Bray scored 17 points for McKeesport (5-11) in a nonsection win. Johnasia Cash scored 11 points for the Tigers.
Cornell 50, East Allegheny 37 — Nicole Byron, who was one of three players to reach double figures, scored 15 points to lead Cornell (9-7) in nonsection play.
Becca Robinson and Katie Plish scored 11 points each for Cornell, while Cache Street led East Allegheny (3-11) with 15 points.
Greensburg Salem 51, McKeesport18 — In the Section 1-AAA fifth-place match, No. 10 ranked Greensburg Salem (5-2) got pins from Brady Shaw (106 pounds), Chris Eddins (113), Austin Shaw (132), Zach Mattucci (145), Korbin Bundy (170), Sebastian Winton (195) and Derick Berberick (220) to qualify for the WPIAL tournament. Kevin Williams (120) and Dennis Sanders (160) won by forfeit for McKeesport (3-3).
